Working from Outlines

I looked at the image of my old bedroom and decided to outline the photos, objects and possessions- I was trying to define the clutter. But then I began to notice how the clutter had become so much apart of the room, and it was almost difficult to see the difference between what structurally made up the room and what had been collected and added over the years.

I took a photo of this image and cropped it to focus on the most interesting part. I printed this out in black and white and decided to paint on top of the image. First I started out small, and then repeated this on a larger printed image. I felt that this, in a way, highlighted how colour (symbolic of personal possessions/ objects/ memories) when added to an otherwise boring room/space can bring life to the space.

I then decided to do a larger painting of the result, on a piece of drawing board (MDF I think it's called?)
I started by drawing on the board
Then I primed with white paint
I added each colour block by block
